WA Energy Prices set to double....

Western Australian Electricity prices are set to double as the state government moves to develop energy tariffs that reflect the true cost of fossil fuel generated power.

State Energy Minister, Peter Collier, said "The previous government held prices artificially low for too long as part of the disaggregation process".

Essentialy taxes and other revenue are used to  support the three state owned energy entities Synergy, Wester Power and Verve who have been suffering massive losses for the last eight years. In this format low energy users have been subsidising high energy users and the ability for competition is near on zero.

By charging the true cost for electricity consumers are encouraged to takes steps towards energy efficiency while renewable energy becomes more competitive option.
